 The Lester Gallery started out as The Terrell Lester Gallery in the garage of their home in May 1988. Terrell Lester became well known as a Maine Landscape Photographer and his reputation as one of the best has grown over the twenty years the gallery has been in business. He was doing about 30 outdoor art shows a year when that little gallery opened and continued to do that while his wife Ginger ran the gallery at home. The opportunity to move into Deer Isle Village came in about 1993 and the gallery has been there ever since. It was so successful that first year that the art show schedule had to be cancelled and was soon not necessary at all.
 In 1995 Random House approached Lester about a coffee table book of his work and the result was the timeless "Maine: The Seasons" which was published by Knopf in 2001. It is now in the third printing. The "Imagining Maine" Calendars are in the seventh year.
The gallery is now owned by Ginger Lester and doing business as The Lester Gallery LLC. Terrell Lester is still the prominent artist. However there are many talented photographers in Maine who have no representation or galleries of their own. The Alcove at The Lester Gallery LLC displays the work of these artists during the Summer season for two weeks each. Only Maine photographers are being accepted at this time but the images are not limited to Maine. |
